Being a tourist in my own town...at ESPN Zone off Michigan Avenue.  Lots of people wearing sports jerseys, eating entire desserts.  There are TV's in the bathroom so you don't miss the game. 

So is this like when you see a bird eating scrambled eggs (off a plate, brunch time, outdoor patio)?  No..ok.

An Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center nurse has filed a civil lawsuit against a Chicago police officer and the city of Chicago, claiming the officer arrested her for wanting to consult with a supervisor before collecting a blood sample from a suspected drunken driver.

Lisa Hofstra was the nurse in charge of the emergency room at Illinois Masonic about 4 a.m. on Aug. 1 when she said an officer named Rodriguez asked her to take blood samples from a man to determine his blood-alcohol level, according to a lawsuit filed in federal court. Hofstra allegedly told the officer the man had to become a patient first and she wanted to consult with her supervisor.

 

The officer cuffed her and placed her in the back of a squad car, according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit claims Rodriguez, who is not fully named in the complaint, used excessive force by placing the handcuffs on Hofstra too tightly and arrested her without probable cause.

Hofstra is seeking an unspecified amount of damages.

Akira has quality where it counts. I got a super cute, fun dress. I do admit that the lining of the dress was a little snug, but what else is new. At least the bottom was a little poofy. Well, I walked around in the dress at home for may 30 minutes before leaving. On my way out the door, I carefully bent down to pick up my purse. Suddenly, the dress fit better. I was like, wow, all I needed to do was to break it in! I gave one final look in the mirror. Dress still looked fine. Then I decided to check the lining. Um, the dress fit better because the lining gave!

Carnivale

Had a wonderful dinner at Carnivale to celebrate my Homey's 30th. Everything was delicious. Who knew you could mash up a plantain with bacon and call it a side? Then we went to Edge on Division...shit place. Empty. This was the second time we tried to hang there. The last time we went there, um, there was NO HEAT. So we hit Rodan on Milwaukee. No dance off this time, but the hipsters were in full effect. We indulged. Then a few of us went over to the Tavern for more goodness. I wanted to see RR in a dance off. But the challenger didn't have anything to show off. See pic below. After some guy bashed his ho on the head with a beer bottle, it was time to go home. You can see JN who wanted to do some pro bono work that night.

Some dudes went swimming in Buckingham Fountain. That is one of the 3 guys standing in the water. There was one carted off by the CPD earlier. There was a third still waiting things out in the fountain at the time this picture was taken. Cuffed and hauled off. There's nothing grosser than going to lockup while wet and sans shoes!

I really liked this show and so did the other people. There was a stage that people aren't supposed to be on. But they did. And there was a pole that should not have been climbed. But some guy did. The people are young. LS and I were talking about the 1994 Lolla with Kurt Cobain and he died in 1994. The girls in front of us turned around. One asked, "HOW OLD ARE YOU???" The other said, "I was like 6 when that happened?!"

Tribute to MJ

I took this on the Fourth of July walking from the Taste of Chicago. MJ's memorial was in front of the Johnson's Publishing building. I had to angle my shot to keep the family of 8 standing next to the memorial.

Cub game

I worked nights on Thursday night. So I'm sitting here with only 4 hours of sleep but totally enjoying a brat. It was a good game. Wish I could have caught a fly ball in my purse.

I got the iPhone 3GS on June 17th...I took a cab from work at 7:30AM to the Apple Store on Michigan Ave. Even the cabbie knew why I was going there. We talked about the awesome nature of Apple and the iPhone. Gosh, I sound like I sell the stuff. Anyway, because I reserved the iPhone online, I was re-routed to a shorter line. Then I walked up the magical steps in my dirty scrubs and got my iPhone with no issues. 40 minutes is all it took.

I love it.
I downloaded Shazam immediately...b/c that app sold me to the iPhone. It had me at Hello.

Not very bright

I thought I had to work tonight, but I don't.
You know how I found out?
I went to work and didn't see my name on the schedule.
And I took such a good nap and slammed a coffee just before 7PM.

Morning Joe at Starbucks

I kinda wish I'd known that Morning Joe - Joe and Mika were at the Starbucks at North Ave and Wells St this morning. Kinda haven't been watching it since I've been working the night shift.

It was authentic audience...people studying, people old, and the guys you're not sure who are homeless but are always playing a heated game of chess.

I used to not like Mika, but she's grown on me. They rag on her because she's got a good sense of humor.

Inside the Oxbow Market for a looksey. Kara's Cupcakes were the bomb. I had the Banana Caramel with cream cheese frosting.


This was the best part of downtown Napa. A smoking tribute to a local legend.
