Lost and FOUND!!

I realized I lost my college graduation earring on Sunday. Just found it on the floor in the breakroom behind the trash can. The post is slightly bent so the housekeeper sorta cleaned the room. Score for me!

Sun Wah

Monday night dinner. Wow, I knew Peking duck is tasty, but who knew Peking Duck could be so fun. We ordered the duck dinner special that totally uses the entire duck. First, this teen-looking hispanic boy with a hipster haircut carved the bird with complete finesse. I will call him Dexter. Then "Chuck" our waiter brought out steamed white buns - the asian kind, duck sauce, pickled daikon radishes, scallions, & carrots. Duck sandwich. I wanted to cup my cheeks (face) with the steamed buns. So white & fluffy. Dexter then took the carcass away. Some other wait staff brought out duck fried rice. Fucking good. Not greasy like other fried rice. Then there was duck soup. We were in heaven. I prepped for a large meal by eating just waffles, Frango mints, coffee, water during the day. Z & K - foodie leaders who brought us here could eat us under the table but were stuffed too. The entire duck is dark meat goodness. The skin, so full of cholesterol, was light & crispy.

We also ordered salt & pepper squid to before the duck. And to make this sorta healthy, we ordered bok choy. These 2 dishes were the bomb too, but they were only part of the peripheral Peking Duck experience (PPDE).

TSA

I fucking hate TSA. You are the work bitch for the airlines.

Instead of checking if my bag fits that American Airline bag-sizing thing (you know that small box beneath the sign "Does your bag fit in here?"), why don't you check people for actual weapons, etc. This is a rule they like to enforce whenever it's convenient. And not even consistent. This dumb roller bag has never been checked in b/c it fits in the overhead bin. This stupid TSA bitch didn't think I'd argue but I did. Yeah, you radioed in my description so of course I had to pay $25 to check in my bag even though EVERYONE who rides an AA American Eagle plane checks their bag in at the plane! There basically isn't an overhead bin. There's a "bin" the size of the overhead bin on a Grey Hound BUS. AA wasn't nice either. And after I paid, of course the bag handler chucked my bag on the conveyer belt. And my bag has a new black coating from being checked in.

Like I said to you last week, I'll say it again: OH, FUCK YOU!

Exhale

Now that I'm done with school, I'm hoping for a fresh start with the things I put on the side burner for the last 2 years. sweetyellowcorn.blogspot.com mainly.

Spent pre-Xmas in Houston. It was a great escape from the Chicago cold. Big Puffer (aka North Face Arctic Wind Parka) and Ugg boots were in shock with the 80 degree weather when I stepped out of IAH. Hung out with the family, got a massage, played old skool Dr. Mario on the Wii with my sister.

Christmas Eve at IAH and ORD - totally empty
Working on Xmas day - fun crew but still rather be with family & friends.

The Purple Pig

I've been eating out for lunch a little to much this week...not complaining, just commenting

Ok, went to The Purple Pig. It was delicious! And interesting menu. I went with another person who doesn't fear weird foods
( we're filipino). And we finished just about everything to the waitresses surprise. Shit, we CAN put it away.

http://thepurplepigchicago.com/

We ordered:
Pig's Ear with Crispy Kale, Pickled Cherry Peppers & Fried Egg
Pretty good. Not weird tasting or weird texture-wise. it's fried. you can't fuck up fried food.

Sardines with Lemon Vinaigrette
This was tasty! The fennel salad that went with it was a good fresh balance to the sardines. These aren't sardines from a can. Lots of little berry things (currants & capers, oh my) mixed in the salad.

Eggplant Caponata with Goat Cheese Smear
Very good too. Bold taste. It actually tasted healthy if that makes sense. Lots of eggplant. It was a contrast to the lemony dishes like the sardines and the un-named salad (next)

And a salad that isn't listed on the online menu - had endive, lemon, shaved hard cheese like maybe parmesan and aborio rice - refreshing!

THere are recipes on the purple pig site too.

Flo & Santos

Flo's Polish

Surprisingly delicious!
Perfect balance, blend, whatever of Polska Kielbasa, sauerkraut, applewood smoked bacon, & of course, cheese.
This would be easy to mess up if done by an amateur.

Happy Halloween

Halloween is a kids holiday. However, adults continue to hijack the night and create a night of pure fun.
Hung out in Wicker Park as Chilean Miners along with a pimp, Stands with a Fist a la Dances with Wolves, and Betty Draper.

Love the Hangover group ensemble, Tiger Woods, bull and bull fighter.
Way to slut it out ladies!

Sunday Bears

Ok last Sunday's game as a spectator or fan must have been quite a trip.
On Monday morning/the day after:

1) I saw a neighbor keys dangling in the door knob. Possible scenario: Boyfriend drunk and late coming home trying to open the door. Door swung open by annoyed girlfriend inside. Keys left dangling over night. Keys witnessing Wall Street Journal delivery person.
I was nice...took keys out the door and hid them under the WSJ.

2)  Blood drops on the front door...on the outside. Carnage? Bloody nose from post-game drunk fist fight?

Weather

The weather is insane today!
Driving south on the Dan Ryan 90/94 was scary with the rain and the dark gloomy skies.
Coming back to the city - pretty deceptive with the partly cloudy blue sky. There is nothing sealed tight enough to keep the gusts of wind out.
Glad to be back in the comforts of home. Listening to things rattle and shake, winds roar, & the grill roll are pleasant sounds and a reminder of the powerful Mother Nature.

Great time today at the Bucktown 5K. It's advertised as the "warm up" for the Chicago Marathon.
Well, I almost vomited at the finish line. Thank goodness brunch was not far from the finish line. Hot Chocolate on Damen. Home of the $4 coffee, $2 refill, $7 hot chocolate.

Worst Movie...Ever

There are many "Worst Movie...Ever" but I have to point out that Matrix Revolution is very bad. When I first saw the green alphanumeric shower on black, I though oooh red v blue pill time. Uhh, it wasn't 1 or 2. I definitely never saw 3 in the theatre and definitely glad I never did after seeing 5 minutes of Revolution.

It does make great background noise while I study for the first exam of my FINAL semester of graduate school!

Marathon

I'm training with CARA (www.cararuns.org) for the Chicago Marathon. Honestly, I haven't had the time to follow the training schedule. However, I ran the 18 miles today with the 10:00 pace group. Actually, we run around 9:45. I couldn't keep up that pace more than probably 16 miles and had to return to the 10 min pace. Luckily, I had someone to slow down and run with. Anyway, while down at 67th street, I had to Gu - Espresso Love. I looked at it and gagged. I mean eyes watering, burps, etc - true gagging. If I don't look, i'm ok.
